6 Reasons Why You Need to Stop Making Excuses

We all do it, but excuses are annoying as hell. It’s summer so get your butt in gear and do something. If you’re thinking of reasons why you don’t need to read this article – you need to read this.

Excuses are the bane of humanity, so let’s start with number 1.

  1. You’re not doing anyone any favors

I don’t know what you think you’re going to accomplish by making excuses, but chances are you aren’t going to accomplish anything. A body in motion tends to stay in motion, and the opposite is true too. You’re just lazy. You’re not helping anyone out, not even yourself by making excuses. You’re fat because you don’t move, and you have no friends because you don’t make an effort or make the excuse that everyone is stupid. Which leads into the next point…

  1. You’re just going to get depressed

Depression, as much as people want you be believe it’s out of your hands (excuses?), is entirely in your court. You decide if you want to be happy (is that surprising?) just like you decide pretty much 99% of your life. You choose to get up and move, and if you don’t you’re likely to become depressed, because you’re too lazy to – do anything. It’s well know that physical activity decreases your chances of depression and is the best treatment for it. So maybe you should go outside and stop making excuses for it. The fact is, even if you look like crap afterwards, you’re going to feel better.

  1. It’s only going to get worse

Since exercising is one of the biggest things that people make excuses for, we’re going to talk about that. Once you make an excuse to not go out and run or lift, you’re going to find it considerably easier to make the excuse again. I mean, we can look at the number of gym memberships that are only partially used or not used at all. You’re wasting your time and money. Don’t do that to yourself. It might only be one day, or one week, but that’s where it starts. People don’t gain 25 lbs in a week.

  1. You’re going to become weak

This time we’re not talking about physical fitness, exclusively. Sure, that’s a simple correlation to make, but you’re also going to become a weak, defensive person. I’ve chirped about this (NSFW) article on cracked here before because I think it imparts truth that has levels of credibility right after the Bible. The #1 harsh truth that the author mentions is that “Everything inside you will fight improvement.” It’s true, and the more you resist improvement, the more excuses you’ll make. If you’re constantly defending your position, you’re in a vulnerable position. So you pile on more and more excuses until…

  1. Everyone will hate you

There is nothing more annoying than someone who makes excuses for everything.

“Want to invite Mary  to the party?”

“No, she annoys me.”

“How about Joe?”

“No, he’s a jerk.”

“How about Jamie? She never has anything mean to say about anyone.”

“She’s so fake, ugh.”

“Can I even come to the party?”

“Well now that you mention it…”

You see, no one wants to hear you make excuses for why you don’t like someone, or why you don’t want to run. You’re just going to drive people up the wall. I hear it all the time. If other people’s “why” questions are met with your stern resistance, you’re doing something wrong.

  1. You’re going to turn into a complainer

This is what happens when you do all of these things, on a consistent basis. You become whiney, complainy, and a pain in the neck to be around. You probably don’t have friends because you don’t stop complaining. You also never take the blame for anything you do. It’s probably your fault your alarm didn’t go off, because you got up, turned it off and went back to bed. It isn’t your roommate’s or your mom’s job to wake you up, if you turn off your alarm and go back to bed. It also isn’t anyone else’s job to entertain you, so don’t complain if you’re bored and no one will text you back. It’s probably because you complain every time you’re around them.

So, stop making excuses, and follow me on twitter.
